CameronHelps.ca #BoldandCold 5K
-December 2nd, 2016-
Last Sunday Jaclyn, Brett, and I were asked to help warm up about 150 participants of the CameronHelps #BoldandCold 5K run here in Oakville.
CameronHelps.ca is an organization that provides Youth Suicide Awareness and Prevention Programs. It was a great fit as most of our clients are youth athletes.
I had never led a warm up for that many people before but decided pretty quickly I wouldn’t mind stepping out of my comfort zone as it is a great cause.
With that many people of all ages and levels I knew I’d have to do some different things from our regular warm ups.
Basically, I improvised almost everything once we got there and I finally got to see the space and amount of people we’d be dealing with. The only thing I did know was we were going to get everyone pumped up, ready to run, and have some fun!
Somewhere along the line in planning the only thing I could think was to say rhymes while leading the stretch to have some fun with it. Here are some of them:
- Gonna have some fun and go for a run
- Gotta get our minds right and our body tight
- It’s a great day for a 5K
- Gotta get some motion in that ankle, when you finish pain free you’ll be thankful!
That last one was my favourite, and after a few seconds of saying it I couldn’t help it and patted myself on the back over the Microphone and said “Nailed It”.
We had a great time! After we finished we even had a few of our athletes from The Dynamic Athlete participating in the run come up to us and say hi.
